Aroostook War
The Aroostook War was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain that occurred in the early 1830s, primarily over the disputed boundary between the U.S. state of Maine and the British territory of New Brunswick. The disagreement arose from conflicting interpretations of the 1783 Treaty of Paris, which ended the American Revolutionary War. Tensions escalated as both sides sent troops to the region, leading to skirmishes and a military buildup.
Although the conflict was largely non-violent, it highlighted the need for a resolution. In 1842, the Webster-Ashburton Treaty was signed, which established the current boundary and peacefully settled the dispute, preventing further military confrontation.
