Arikara
The Arikara are a Native American tribe originally from the Great Plains region, primarily located in present-day North Dakota. They are part of the larger Siouan language family and historically engaged in agriculture, hunting, and fishing. The Arikara lived in earth lodges and formed complex social structures, often interacting with neighboring tribes such as the Mandans and Hidatsas.
In the 19th century, the Arikara faced significant challenges due to European-American expansion and conflicts, including the Indian Wars. Today, they are federally recognized and continue to preserve their cultural heritage while participating in modern society. The tribe is involved in various economic and educational initiatives to support their community.
