Arginases
Arginases are enzymes that play a crucial role in the metabolism of the amino acid arginine. They catalyze the conversion of arginine into ornithine and urea, which are important for various biological processes, including the urea cycle that helps remove excess nitrogen from the body.
There are two main types of arginases: arginase I, primarily found in the liver, and arginase II, which is present in other tissues. These enzymes are essential for regulating levels of arginine and maintaining proper cellular function, influencing processes such as nitric oxide production and immune response.
