Arawaks
The Arawaks are an indigenous group of people originally from the Caribbean and parts of South America. They are known for their agricultural practices, including the cultivation of crops like cassava and maize. The Arawaks lived in organized communities and were skilled in fishing and crafting canoes, which facilitated trade and travel between islands.
Historically, the Arawaks encountered European explorers in the late 15th century, notably Christopher Columbus. This contact led to significant changes in their way of life, including the introduction of new diseases and the impact of colonization. Today, descendants of the Arawaks can still be found in various regions, preserving aspects of their cultural heritage.
