Apricot Pits
Apricot pits are the hard seeds found inside the fruit of the apricot tree. They are typically oval-shaped and have a tough outer shell that protects the inner seed. While the flesh of the apricot is sweet and edible, the pit itself is usually not consumed due to its bitter taste and potential toxicity.
Inside the pit, there is a kernel that can be extracted. This kernel contains compounds called amygdalin, which can release cyanide when metabolized. Because of this, consuming large quantities of apricot pits or kernels can be dangerous. It is important to handle them with care and avoid eating them raw.
