Antipodean albatross
The Antipodean albatross is a large seabird known for its impressive wingspan, which can reach up to 3.4 meters (11 feet). This species primarily breeds on the sub-Antarctic islands, particularly on Campbell Island and Macquarie Island. They are recognized for their striking white and black plumage and their ability to glide over the ocean for long distances.
These albatrosses primarily feed on fish, squid, and crustaceans, often scavenging from fishing vessels. The Antipodean albatross is classified as vulnerable due to threats such as bycatch in fishing gear and habitat loss. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their populations and breeding grounds.
