Anti-Balaka
The Anti-Balaka is a militia group that emerged in the Central African Republic (CAR) around 2013. Formed in response to the violence and instability caused by the Seleka rebel coalition, the Anti-Balaka consists mainly of Christian fighters. Their name translates to "anti-machete," symbolizing their opposition to the Seleka, who were known for using machetes in their attacks.
The group has been involved in numerous violent confrontations, leading to significant human rights abuses against both Muslim and Christian communities. The Anti-Balaka's actions have contributed to the ongoing conflict in the CAR, complicating efforts for peace and reconciliation in the region.
