Anodic Reactions
Anodic reactions occur at the anode during electrochemical processes, where oxidation takes place. In these reactions, electrons are released from a substance, often a metal, leading to the formation of positive ions. This process is essential in various applications, including batteries and electrolysis.
In a typical electrochemical cell, such as a galvanic cell, the anode is the electrode where the oxidation reaction happens. For example, in a zinc-copper cell, zinc oxidizes to form zinc ions, releasing electrons that flow through the external circuit to the cathode, where reduction occurs.
