Annual Cicada
The Annual Cicada is a type of cicada that emerges every year, unlike its periodic counterparts that appear in cycles of 13 or 17 years. These insects are known for their distinctive buzzing sound, produced by males to attract females. They are typically found in warm climates and are most active during the summer months.
Annual cicadas have a lifespan of about two to five years, spending most of their life underground as nymphs. When they emerge, they shed their exoskeletons and begin their short adult life, which lasts only a few weeks. Their presence is often associated with warm weather and is a familiar sound in many regions, especially in the United States.
