Ann Lee
Ann Lee was the leader of the Shaker movement, a religious sect that emerged in the 18th century in the United States. Born in England in 1736, she immigrated to America in 1774, where she became known as "Mother Ann." The Shakers believed in communal living, celibacy, and a simple lifestyle, emphasizing equality and pacifism.
Under Ann Lee's leadership, the Shakers established several communities, particularly in New York and New England. They were known for their distinctive furniture, craftsmanship, and vibrant worship practices, which included dancing and singing. Ann Lee passed away in 1784, but her teachings and the Shaker way of life continued to influence American culture.
