Anglo-Nepalese War
The Anglo-Nepalese War (1814-1816) was a conflict between the British East India Company and the Kingdom of Nepal. The war arose from territorial disputes and the expansionist policies of both sides. The British aimed to secure their borders in northern India, while the Nepali rulers sought to expand their territory.
The war concluded with the Treaty of Sugauli in 1815, which significantly reduced Nepal's territory. As a result, Nepal lost land to the British, including parts of present-day Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and Darjeeling. The treaty also established a British resident in Kathmandu, marking the beginning of British influence in Nepal.
