Anglo-Gorkha War
The Anglo-Gorkha War (1814-1816) was a conflict between the British East India Company and the Kingdom of Gorkha, located in present-day Nepal. The war arose from territorial disputes and the Gorkha expansion into regions that the British considered part of their influence. The British aimed to secure their trade routes and protect their interests in India.
The war concluded with the signing of the Treaty of Sugauli in 1815, which resulted in significant territorial losses for the Gorkhas. They ceded large areas of land, including parts of present-day Uttarakhand and Sikkim, to the British. This conflict marked the beginning of British influence in Nepal.
