Andrea Yates
Andrea Yates is an American woman who gained national attention for the tragic drowning of her five children in 2001. She struggled with severe mental health issues, including postpartum depression and psychosis, which significantly impacted her ability to care for her children.
Following the incident, Yates was charged with murder and underwent two trials. In her first trial, she was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, but her conviction was overturned on appeal. In her second trial, she was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was committed to a mental health facility.
