Ancient Cosmology
Ancient cosmology refers to the understanding of the universe held by ancient civilizations. Different cultures, such as the Babylonians, Greeks, and Egyptians, developed their own models to explain the cosmos. These models often included a flat Earth surrounded by celestial bodies, with gods or divine forces influencing the movements of stars and planets.
Many ancient societies used observations of the night sky to create calendars and predict seasonal changes. The Ptolemaic system, for example, proposed that the Earth was at the center of the universe, with the sun and planets orbiting around it. This geocentric view dominated for centuries until the Copernican Revolution introduced a heliocentric model.
