Anatomical Snuffbox
The anatomical snuffbox is a triangular depression located on the lateral aspect of the wrist. It is formed by the tendons of the muscles extensor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, and abductor pollicis longus. This area is significant in anatomy and clinical practice, as it can be used to assess injuries or conditions affecting the wrist.
The anatomical snuffbox is also clinically relevant for locating the scaphoid bone, which is a common site of fracture. Tenderness in this area after a wrist injury may indicate a scaphoid fracture, necessitating further evaluation and treatment.
