Anacletus II
Anacletus II was a pope who reigned from 1130 to 1138. His election was controversial, as it occurred during a period of conflict between different factions within the Catholic Church. Anacletus II was supported by the Guelphs, a political faction in Italy, which led to a schism with the rival pope, Innocent II.
During his papacy, Anacletus II focused on consolidating power and gaining support from various European rulers. His reign was marked by efforts to strengthen the papacy and address issues related to the Crusades. However, he faced opposition and was eventually excommunicated by Innocent II, leading to his decline in influence.
