AL amyloidosis
AL amyloidosis is a rare disease caused by the buildup of abnormal proteins called amyloids in various organs and tissues. These proteins are produced by a type of bone marrow cell known as plasma cells. When these cells malfunction, they create misfolded proteins that can accumulate, leading to organ damage.
Commonly affected areas include the heart, kidneys, liver, and nervous system. Symptoms may vary depending on the organs involved and can include fatigue, swelling, and shortness of breath. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to manage the condition and improve quality of life.
