Amistad
"Amistad" is a historical event that took place in 1839 when a group of enslaved Africans, led by Cinqué, revolted aboard the Spanish ship La Amistad. They seized control of the ship while it was transporting them to a plantation in Cuba. The enslaved individuals aimed to return to Africa, but they were captured off the coast of the United States.
The case of the Amistad became a significant legal battle in the U.S. courts, raising questions about slavery and human rights. In 1841, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Africans, allowing them to return to their homeland, marking a pivotal moment in the abolitionist movement.
