Amadeus VIII, Duke of Savoy
Amadeus VIII, Duke of Savoy was born in 1383 and became a significant figure in European history. He ruled as Duke of Savoy from 1416 until his abdication in 1434. His reign was marked by efforts to strengthen the duchy and expand its territories, particularly in the regions of Piedmont and Savoie.
In 1434, Amadeus VIII abdicated in favor of his son, Louis, and later became a cardinal. He was known for his diplomatic skills and played a crucial role in the politics of Northern Italy during the early 15th century. Amadeus VIII was also recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church after his death in 1451.
