Alonso Berruguete
Alonso Berruguete was a prominent Spanish sculptor and painter of the Renaissance, born around 1488 in Paredes de Nava. He is known for his expressive figures and intricate details, which reflect the emotional intensity of the period. Berruguete trained in Italy, where he was influenced by the works of Michelangelo and other masters, before returning to Spain to create significant religious artworks.
His most notable works include the altarpiece for the Cathedral of Toledo and various sculptures for the Monastery of San Benito el Real. Berruguete's style combined elements of Gothic and Renaissance art, making him a key figure in the transition of Spanish art during the 16th century.
