Almoravids
The Almoravids were a Berber Muslim dynasty that emerged in the 11th century in North Africa. They originated from the Sanhaja tribe and were known for their strict interpretation of Islam. The Almoravids expanded their influence across the Maghreb and into Iberia, establishing a vast empire that included parts of modern-day Morocco, Algeria, and Spain.
Their rise to power began with the unification of various Berber tribes under a common religious and political banner. The Almoravids played a significant role in the Reconquista, as they sought to defend Muslim territories against Christian kingdoms in Iberia. Their reign lasted until the 12th century, when they were eventually succeeded by the Almohads.
