Almoravid Dynasty
The Almoravid Dynasty was a Berber Muslim empire that emerged in the 11th century in North Africa. Founded by the Lamtuna tribe, it expanded rapidly, uniting various Berber groups and spreading Islam across the region. The dynasty is known for its strict adherence to Maliki Islamic law and its efforts to reform religious practices.
At its height, the Almoravid Dynasty controlled parts of modern-day Morocco, Algeria, and Spain. The dynasty played a significant role in the Reconquista, as it sought to defend Muslim territories against Christian kingdoms. Its influence waned in the 12th century, leading to the rise of the Almohad movement.
