Aliphatic Isocyanates
Aliphatic isocyanates are organic compounds characterized by the presence of the isocyanate functional group (-N=C=O) attached to an aliphatic carbon chain. They are commonly used in the production of polyurethanes, which are versatile materials found in foams, coatings, and adhesives. Their properties, such as low volatility and good stability, make them suitable for various industrial applications.
These compounds differ from aromatic isocyanates, which contain a benzene ring. Aliphatic isocyanates are generally less toxic and have lower reactivity, making them safer to handle. Examples include hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), both widely used in coatings and sealants.
