Algerian Politics
Algerian politics is characterized by a multi-party system, but the National Liberation Front (FLN) has historically dominated the political landscape since the country's independence in 1962. The government is a semi-presidential republic, where the President holds significant power, and the Parliament consists of two chambers: the National People's Assembly and the Council of the Nation.
In recent years, Algeria has experienced political unrest, particularly during the 2019 protests against former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who sought a fifth term. These protests led to his resignation and sparked a broader demand for political reform, highlighting issues such as corruption and the need for greater democracy in the country.
