Alfonso II of Naples
Alfonso II of Naples was the King of Naples from 1494 until his abdication in 1495. He was born in 1448 and was the son of Ferdinand I of Naples. Alfonso's reign was marked by political instability and the threat of foreign invasion, particularly from Charles VIII of France, who sought to claim the Neapolitan throne.
In 1495, facing military pressure, Alfonso II chose to abdicate in favor of his son, Ferdinand II of Naples. After his abdication, he retired to a life of relative obscurity, eventually passing away in 1495. His reign is often noted for its cultural contributions, including the patronage of the arts.
