Alerce Tree
The Alerce tree, scientifically known as *Fitzroya cupressoides*, is a conifer native to the temperate rainforests of southern Chile and Argentina. It is known for its impressive height, often reaching up to 60 meters (197 feet), and its longevity, with some trees living for over 3,600 years. The Alerce has a straight trunk and a conical crown, making it a striking presence in its natural habitat.
Alerce wood is highly valued for its durability and resistance to decay, making it sought after for construction and furniture. However, due to overexploitation and habitat loss, the Alerce tree is now considered endangered. Conservation efforts are in place to protect this remarkable species and its ecosystem.
