Alcubierre drive
The Alcubierre drive is a theoretical concept for faster-than-light space travel, proposed by physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994. It suggests creating a "warp bubble" that contracts space in front of a spacecraft and expands it behind, allowing the ship to move through space without violating the laws of physics.
This idea relies on manipulating exotic matter with negative energy density, which has not yet been discovered. While the Alcubierre drive remains purely theoretical, it has sparked interest in the fields of astrophysics and science fiction, inspiring discussions about the possibilities of interstellar travel.
