Al-Nuri Mosque Minaret
The Al-Nuri Mosque Minaret is a historic structure located in Mosul, Iraq. Built in the 12th century, it is renowned for its unique architectural style, featuring a distinctive spiral design. The minaret stands at approximately 45 meters tall and was an important landmark in the city, often referred to as the "hunchback" due to its tilted appearance.
In June 2017, the minaret was destroyed during the conflict between the Islamic State and Iraqi forces. Its loss was a significant blow to the cultural heritage of Mosul, as the minaret was a symbol of the city's rich history and Islamic architecture. Efforts are ongoing to restore the mosque and its minaret.
