Aksumite Architecture
Aksumite architecture is characterized by its impressive stone structures, including obelisks, palaces, and tombs. The most notable feature is the towering stelae, which served as grave markers for elite individuals. These structures were often intricately carved and demonstrated advanced engineering techniques for their time.
The Aksumite Empire, located in present-day Ethiopia and Eritrea, flourished from the 1st to the 7th century CE. Its architecture reflects a blend of local traditions and influences from Egypt and Arabia. The use of large blocks of stone and the construction of monumental buildings highlight the empire's wealth and power during its peak.
