Ailuridae
The Ailuridae family, commonly known as the red pandas, includes two extant species: the red panda (Ailurus fulgens) and the lesser panda (Ailurus fulgens styani). These mammals are native to the temperate forests of the Himalayas and southwestern China. They are known for their distinctive reddish-brown fur, bushy tails, and a diet primarily consisting of bamboo.
Red pandas are arboreal, spending much of their time in trees, where they use their sharp claws to climb. They are solitary animals and are mostly active during the night. Despite their name, red pandas are not closely related to giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), but they share a similar diet and habitat preferences.
