Agikuyu
The Agikuyu, also known as the Kikuyu, are the largest ethnic group in Kenya. They primarily inhabit the central region of the country, particularly around Mount Kenya. The Agikuyu speak the Kikuyu language, which is part of the Bantu language family. Traditionally, they are known for their agricultural practices, cultivating crops such as maize, beans, and potatoes.
The Agikuyu have a rich cultural heritage, with strong beliefs in spirituality and the importance of community. Their social structure is organized around clans, each with its own customs and traditions. The Agikuyu played a significant role in the struggle for independence from British colonial rule, contributing to the formation of the Mau Mau movement.
