Kikuyu People
The Kikuyu people are the largest ethnic group in Kenya, primarily residing in the central highlands. They speak the Kikuyu language, which is part of the Bantu language family. Traditionally, the Kikuyu are known for their agricultural practices, cultivating crops such as maize, beans, and potatoes. Their society is organized around clans, each with its own customs and leadership structures.
Historically, the Kikuyu played a significant role in the struggle for independence from British colonial rule, particularly through the Mau Mau Uprising in the 1950s. Today, they continue to influence Kenyan politics, culture, and economy, maintaining a rich heritage while adapting to modern changes.
