Adolphus of Cleves
Adolphus of Cleves was a nobleman from the House of Cleves, a region in present-day Germany. He was born in the late 15th century and became known for his political alliances and marriages, which were common among European nobility to strengthen power and influence. His family played a significant role in the politics of the Holy Roman Empire.
He is often remembered for his connection to the English court, particularly through his sister, Anne of Cleves, who married King Henry VIII of England. Their marriage was short-lived, leading to an annulment, but it highlighted the importance of dynastic marriages in European history.
