Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV)
Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) is a routing protocol designed for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). It enables devices to discover routes to other devices on an as-needed basis, which helps conserve network resources. AODV establishes routes only when required, minimizing overhead and allowing for efficient communication in dynamic environments.
The protocol uses a request-response mechanism, where a device sends a route request (RREQ) to find a path to a destination. If a route is found, the destination replies with a route reply (RREP), allowing data packets to be sent. This on-demand approach makes AODV suitable for networks with frequently changing topologies.
