Aboriginal history
Aboriginal history refers to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Indigenous peoples of Australia, known as the Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders. This history spans over 65,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuous cultures in the world. Aboriginal peoples have their own languages, traditions, and spiritual beliefs, deeply connected to the land and nature.
The arrival of European settlers in the late 18th century marked a significant turning point in Aboriginal history. This led to widespread displacement, violence, and the introduction of new diseases, which drastically affected Indigenous populations. Despite these challenges, Aboriginal communities continue to preserve their cultural practices and advocate for their rights today.
