Abingdon Abbey
Abingdon Abbey was a Benedictine monastery located in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. Founded in the 7th century, it became one of the most important religious centers in the region. The abbey was known for its impressive architecture and extensive library, which housed many valuable manuscripts.
In 1538, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII, Abingdon Abbey was closed, and its buildings were largely dismantled. Today, remnants of the abbey can still be seen, including parts of the church and the abbey's gatehouse, which serve as a reminder of its historical significance.
