ADPKD
Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous cysts in the kidneys. These cysts can lead to kidney enlargement and may impair kidney function over time. The condition is caused by mutations in specific genes, primarily the PKD1 and PKD2 genes, which are inherited from one parent.
Symptoms of ADPKD often include high blood pressure, back or side pain, and frequent urination. As the disease progresses, it can lead to complications such as kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and ultimately kidney failure. Regular monitoring and management are essential for those affected by this condition.
