6th March 1971
On 6th March 1971, the political landscape of East Pakistan shifted dramatically when Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the leader of the Awami League, declared the independence of Bangladesh. This announcement followed a series of political tensions and demands for autonomy from the central government in West Pakistan.
The declaration marked the beginning of a struggle for independence that would lead to the Bangladesh Liberation War. This conflict lasted until December 1971, ultimately resulting in the establishment of Bangladesh as an independent nation. The events of this day are commemorated annually as Bangabandhu Day in Bangladesh.
