2010 Chilean Mining Accident
In August 2010, a cave-in at the San José mine in northern Chile trapped 33 miners underground. The miners were stuck about 700 meters below the surface, leading to a massive rescue operation that captured global attention.
After 69 days, a specially designed capsule called the Fénix 2 successfully brought each miner to safety. The rescue operation concluded on October 13, 2010, and all 33 miners were safely brought to the surface, marking a significant achievement in mining safety and rescue efforts.
