청일 전쟁
The 청일 전쟁, or the First Sino-Japanese War, occurred from 1894 to 1895 between the 청나라 (Qing Dynasty) of China and 일본 (Japan). The conflict primarily arose over control of 조선 (Korea), which was a tributary state of China. Japan's victory marked its emergence as a major world power and signaled the decline of Qing influence in East Asia.
The war concluded with the signing of the 시모노세키 조약 (Treaty of Shimonoseki) in April 1895. As a result, China recognized Korea's independence and ceded Taiwan and the Pescadores Islands to Japan. This war significantly altered the balance of power in East Asia and set the stage for future conflicts in the region.
