세미놀 전쟁
The 세미놀 전쟁 (Seminole Wars) refers to a series of conflicts in the 19th century between the United States and the 세미놀 (Seminole) people in Florida. The wars were primarily driven by U.S. expansionist policies and the desire to remove Native Americans from their lands. The first war began in 1817 and lasted until 1818, while the second war occurred from 1835 to 1842, and a third war took place from 1855 to 1858.
The conflicts were marked by guerrilla warfare tactics employed by the 세미놀 and their alliances with escaped slaves and other Native American tribes. The U.S. military faced significant challenges due to the difficult terrain of the Florida swamps. Ultimately, the wars resulted in the forced removal of many 세미놀 people to Indian Territory, significantly impacting their population and culture.
