막걸리
막걸리 is a traditional Korean rice wine made from fermented rice, water, and a fermentation starter called nuruk. It has a milky appearance and a slightly sweet, tangy flavor. Often served in a bowl or a cup, 막걸리 is popular in Korea for its refreshing taste and lower alcohol content compared to other alcoholic beverages.
This drink has a long history, dating back to the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392). It is commonly enjoyed during celebrations and gatherings, often paired with traditional Korean dishes like pajeon (green onion pancakes). 막걸리 is also gaining popularity outside of Korea, appreciated for its unique flavor and cultural significance.
