郑和
郑和 (Zheng He) was a Chinese explorer and diplomat during the early Ming Dynasty. Born in 1371, he was originally named 马和 (Ma He) and was a Muslim of the Hui ethnic group. Zheng He is best known for his seven maritime expeditions between 1405 and 1433, which took him to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. His voyages aimed to establish trade relations and showcase the power of the Ming Dynasty.
Zheng He's fleet consisted of large ships called treasure ships, which were among the largest of their time. His expeditions facilitated cultural exchanges and trade, bringing back valuable goods such as spices, precious stones, and exotic animals. Zheng He’s journeys significantly contributed to the maritime history of China and helped expand its influence across the Indian Ocean.
