大跃进
The "大跃进" (Great Leap Forward) was a campaign initiated by the Chinese Communist Party from 1958 to 1962. Its goal was to rapidly transform China from an agrarian society into a socialist society through industrialization and collectivization. The campaign encouraged the establishment of large collective farms and promoted backyard steel production, which led to widespread inefficiencies.
However, the Great Leap Forward resulted in severe economic disruption and is associated with a catastrophic famine that caused millions of deaths. The policies implemented during this period were later criticized, and the campaign is often viewed as a significant failure in China's economic history.
