Масляна (Pancakes)
Масляна, also known as Maslenitsa, is a traditional Slavic festival that marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring. It typically lasts for a week and is celebrated with various activities, including singing, dancing, and games. The highlight of the festival is the preparation and consumption of pancakes, symbolizing the sun and the warmth of spring.
During Масляна, families and friends gather to enjoy pancakes with various fillings, such as sour cream, jam, or caviar. The festival also includes rituals like burning a straw effigy, known as Lady Maslenitsa, to symbolize the farewell to winter and welcome the new season.
