Λεωνίδας was a king of Σπάρτη and a prominent figure in ancient Greek history, known for his leadership during the Μάχη των Θερμοπυλών in 480 BC. He is celebrated for his bravery and tactical skills, leading a small force of Σπαρτιάτες and other Greek allies against the much larger Persian army led by Ξέρξης. His stand at Thermopylae became a symbol of courage and sacrifice, as he and his men fought valiantly to defend their homeland. Despite their eventual defeat, the battle inspired other Greek city-states to unite against the Persian threat, ultimately contributing to the Greek victory in the Περσικοί Πόλεμοι.
