Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France before the French Revolution. Born in 1755 in Vienna, she was the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I. At 14, she married Louis XVI to strengthen the alliance between Austria and France.
As queen, she became known for her extravagant lifestyle, which led to public discontent during a time of economic hardship. Her reputation suffered further due to her perceived indifference to the struggles of the French people. In 1793, she was executed by guillotine during the revolution.
