{Jacobite risings
The Jacobite risings were a series of uprisings in Great Britain during the late 17th and 18th centuries. They aimed to restore the Stuart monarchy to the throne, specifically supporting James II and his descendants. The most notable risings occurred in 1715 and 1745, with the latter led by Charles Edward Stuart, known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie."
These uprisings were fueled by political and religious tensions, particularly between Catholics and Protestants. The risings ultimately failed, leading to significant consequences for the Highlands of Scotland, including land confiscations and cultural suppression, marking a turning point in Scottish history.
