{Charles, Duke of Orléans
Charles, Duke of Orléans (1394-1465) was a French nobleman and poet, known for his significant contributions to literature during the late Middle Ages. He was born into the royal family and became a prominent figure in the Hundred Years' War, a conflict between England and France. Captured at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, he spent many years in English captivity.
During his imprisonment, Charles wrote a substantial body of poetry, including love poems and ballads, which showcased his literary talent. His works are considered important in the development of the French poetic tradition, and he is often regarded as one of the early masters of the French lyric form.
