wax palms
Wax palms, known scientifically as Ceroxylon, are tall, slender trees native to the high-altitude regions of the Andes in South America. They can grow up to 60 meters (197 feet) tall and are recognized for their smooth, waxy trunks, which can be up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) in diameter. The waxy coating helps protect the tree from harsh weather conditions.
These palms are often found in cloud forests and are the national tree of Colombia. They produce a waxy substance that can be harvested and used for various purposes, including candle making and cosmetics. Due to habitat loss and overharvesting, some species of wax palms are considered endangered.
